Can anyone tell me if the taning crystals from Van Dykes are the same as the ones that come with the autotaner. I am runing low on crystals and am making an order from Van Dykes and they dont offer steves product. I called customer service but the lady I spoke to didnt give a staight answer. I would like to know if they are the same as his original or the arrowhead or if they will substitute.

I think they are comparable but not the same. Both products are just alum and ash but Steve's are probably better for his application and Van Dyke's are probably better for long-term immersion.
Who knows for sure.
I have had both in stock at different times (when a client requests a poor tan "cheap and easy") and I see no difference in results, always using immersion tanning - no autotanner.
I would not take a chance like that. I would go with the arrowhead crystals as they are designed by steve to work in the Auto Tanner. Anything else would be a gamble if you ask me. I would never think of offering a "cheap and easy" tan. With something less than high standered you are giving them a reason to show your less then high standered work = bad rep for you. Jack F

I just dumped about 5 pounds of the Van Dyke's crystals into a gallon bucket, dissolved them in hot water, waited for the fizz to go away!, sneezed a few times, then finally was able to pour amounts of this mixture in to each of my tanning vats.
Very low grade skins are being worked with. Many of them.
If the skins come out nice or soft, then the crystals are probably basically the same. (same base chemical, different carrier or formulation.)
Results will be known in about 40 days.
