Care for bear rug

Hello,
I have a bear rug that is about 100 years old, that I recently found in my grandparents attic. It is from a 'spring' bear as the hair is long, and the colors range from almost black in the center to almost blonde on the edges. The back is attached to a flannel rug. My grandfather told me that when he was a child, his parents used the rug in their sleigh in winter....
It is in excellent condition... still has some shine, is not loosing any hair, not dusty or buggy..
I am wondering the best way to care for it, and keep it in the condition that it is in, as I do want to display it in my home.
Thanks much for any advise, Kimberly

If your rug is that old, you should be VERY careful in anything you do to it. My suggestion would be to make it a wall hanger. IF you decide to use it otherwise, you need to replenish the oils in the original skin. That means removing the felt and applying a hand lotion or tanning oil to the skin side of the rug.
