cow-hide curling edges

i bought a cowhide rug. the edges (espec. the legs) are curling up. is there anything i can apply to it to make it lay down flat?

Take some cheap handlotiong and pour it on the skin side of your hide. Let it soak in for a few hours and then wipe off the excess. Now take your hide out and drag the curled pieces, skin side down, over a metal fence post. Once you do all the curled legs, resoak once more and repeat the steps. The hide was not properly thinned and didn't get "broken" as well as it should have probably. The "breaking" might just break you as well as it's labor intensive but for the curl to go away, you're going to have to WORK at it.
