I ordered the HK20 reptile tanning kit from WASCO to tan a copperhead skin I have and noticed that I need some "brown bottle" Lysol. I have been to 3 stores in my area and am unable to locate this product. I searched the forum here to find some alternatives and I am now really confused. I called some taxidermy shops in my area and got a different answer from each one about this. I noticed that in my search here, I am basically wanting a disinfectant that has "phenol" in it. I have some germicidal detergent we use to disinfect bathrooms and was wondering if this is a suitable alternative. It is called LpHse " a one-step germicidal detergent. It is a Germicide, Funigicide, Virucide, Tuberculocide, Deodeorizer, Cleaner and Detergent. Its has o-phenylphenol 7.3% and p-tertiary amylphenol 7.4% as active ingredients. It is recommended on the label to mix 1/2 ounce per gallon. Could someone please shed some light on this for me, I am really anxious to tan this skin. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

The Lysol thing is all over the archives as it's no longer viable- not that it ever WAS in the first place. Forget about bacteriacides. Hides that spoil because of bacteria have that happen usually before they enter a tanning solution. Just ignore the step.
Super Wally World carries brown bottle lysol...at least the ones around here. I agree with George, but I still use Lysol out of habit.
As the archives state, Lysol USED TO contain trace amount of phenol. They stopped that about the time Endolan U went off the market with DDT and arsenic soap. There's nothing in it anymore except a deodorizer. I'm an old dog too, but instead of worrying about new tricks, I try to elimnate bad habits. I wish I could use that on Cecil.
Withstanding anymore advice to use it, I am going to proceed on without it. Seemed like a lot of legwork trying to find a nonexisting or useless (as it appears) product. Thanks for the replies.
