I am having all sorts of trouble getting formic acid in Australia, is it possible to use vinegar to lower the PH in a pickle mix?
I will be using an alum sulphate tan.

yes,we use it all the time to lower ph. slowy in the tan. in the pickel itworksgoodtoo. but is a little expensive.
I will give it a try, I rang a drug store for citric acid & they want $30 for a kilo, about 2 pound. I thought that was very expensive. Thanks for your advice.
