help on salted wt cape

i have a cape salted hanging in my well shed about 8 months old.i have noticed when it rains it gets soft . do you think its still good . i wanted to flesh it and use dp on it , but i dont know what to do i usually just turn them,salt and send to tannery .

Travis,did you continue to salt the cape as it dried?If you want the hide for a wall hanging,I would make up a pickle solution and then go on to tan the piece instead of using d.p. If you want the hide soft,you will never attain that by using d.p.Tanning a piece is not difficult,but you do have to follow directions.Rittels and Knoblochs have excellant tanning products and if you call either one ,they can guide you through the tanning process,hope this helps-John W.
