We want to wish you good luck because we have been tanning for about 2 years and are still not up to par on being considered professional tanners. We have tanned in the neighborhood of 200 hides and capes. We have tried to collect all types of animals to practice on so that we know exactly how to treat each species. Some will rot if you don't shave them thin enough and some will be extremely prone to slipping. Say predator skins. Please consider all of the factors before jumping into it head first. You don't need a really mad hunter with a tropy Mountain Lion that has been ruined by inexperience. Replacement for some species is incredibly expensive. Start slow and only accept what you can replace if necessary. Although there are disclaimers you can use to protect yourself there is no guarantee someone won't sue you and put you out of business. There are so many people out there willing to sue these days it can be very scary. We will not tan anything we cannot replace without it costing a fortune. A green trophy Mt. Lion will cost around $750 and up.
i don't foresee doing anything too terribly exotic. we will probably just try to do capes and common furskins.
or someone thats been in the business for years. They are full of knowledge and willing to help. They set up many new tanneries, with equipment, supplies, etc. etc.
Good luck with the venture.
