How long can a hide sit in saftee acid, as long as the p h is at 1.5 or below. Might not be able to get to it right after three days. Is 5 or 6 days OK, or will it start to slip. thanks Dan

Dan, You can leave the hide in saftee acid for a long time, the hair should not slip if you keep the PH below 2, I have let capes soak for months in acid and had no problems.

I know this question has been asked previously in the past year and if I recall some people claim that they have left capes in saftee acid up to a year with no problems. Saftee Acid will plump the skin and lock in the hairs and dissolve any left behind proteins that salting did not extract, as long as you keep a good eye on the PH and stir ocassionally you shouldnt have any problems, "unless the cape was in poor shape when you received it".

Rick and Griz are right

I have left capes in Saftee acid for quite awhile once for almost a year . It was one of my capes and I was in no hurry to mount it . Just watch that PH

I just got a bear cape out of the safetee acid pickle yesterday, thats been there since January. As long as you watch your PH and keep it stired you will be OK!
