Probably 20 gallons

I would probably mix up 20 gallons. The cape needs to float around freely in the pickle. I am using 20 gallons now for a red stag and two whitetail capes. It kind of depends on the size of the cape. Is it a large bull elk?

Get a rough weight!

Get a rough idea of its weight if you want to be accurate. Hold the cape in a bucket and stand on your bathroom scale - then take out the cape and holding the bucket stand on it again. The weight difference will roughly give you its weight. Now figure 2 Quarts of solution for each 1 Lb. of skin weight and you'll be right on! If it weighs 12 Lbs. use a 6 Gallon solution.
