Im just learning taxidermy and i made this pelt out of a great woodchuck specimen and after tanning...its unpleasantly stiff...i know im missing something...its totally fleshed degreased washed salted tanned whathaveyou...i even let it soak in downy....how can i make it softer?

Sika, you have to break the hide when it is damp dry to get any softness to it,you do this by stretching the leather while it is in a damp state,take some warm water and apply it to the skin side,let it soak in,it doesn't take much water,than start stretching it,you'll soon get the picture,hope this helps.
