First tanning project (buckskin)

As a first tanning project I would like to make some buckskin could you please tell me if these are the right directions in the right order. I did search the archives but it's hard to find anything to match what I have previously read.

Flesh the deer skin

Put it raw into a dehairing solution of 8 ozs. Hydrated lime to 1 gallon of water

Scrape the hair off

Delime it with 2 ozs. of Ammonium Sulphate per 5 gallons of water

Then add it into my Krowtann solution

Neutralize the tann from the skin

Hang the skin to dry for a half hour

Oil the skin with Neat's-foot Oil

Let it dry while stretching it and evening out the oil

Sand the rough side
End?

Do I oil both sides of the skin?
Can I buy Ammonium Sulphate at any place (local) other than a taxidermy supply store?
This tanning will make my skin white right, to get the golden brown colour I must buy leather dye?

Neat's Foot oil is NOT TANNING OIL

It's used for finishing leather (as in SEALING IT). You'll need a TANNING OIL to treat the hide with.

What tanning oil would you recommend purchasing?
What about the rest of it?

Knoblochs #2 or Rittels

Do I oil both sides of the skin? No.

This tanning will make my skin white right, to get the golden brown colour I must buy leather dye? No. The oil will color the skin somewhat. Why are you using Krowtan? For buckskins I would use Rittels EZ or Brain tan it. Be careful if you want to make a garment out of it. Some of the tanning solutions will irritate your skin.

I'm using Krowtann because everyone says it's the easiest tan to use, is it strictly a taxidermy tan?
Yes I will be using it for a garment will Krowtann or Rittels EZ irritate skin?

Rittels

Rittels is safe to use as a garment tan. The Krowtan will not really tan the hide the way that you are wanting to use it. I have never used it but from what I have read about it I will assume that it is primarily a taxidermy tan. Tanning for garment use is hard work but don't get discouraged. Once the piece is finished you have made real leather not just a preserved skin. Also, buy a good quality oil such as Rittels proplus or Knoblochs #2 tanning oils.
