I recently had a customer bring in two deer capes and a antelope cape that is very soaked in blood, my question is should i try to wash out the blood before fleshing and salting or just go ahead and prep the cape and salt it down and let the blood dry.

I get a few bloody capes in myself. I did a quick wash in kemal-4, 1oz. per 5 gallons of water and about 4 pounds of salt. Adding bactericide might not hurt either. I soaked them for 10 to 15 minutes then rinsed in water. Then tumbled in sawdust to remove most of the water and salted right away. I was always afraid bacteria would set in if I didn't wash out all that blood. Becarefull of the Antelope cape they are really fragile and prone to hair slippage. If it's not to bloody I would skip washing and just salt. Hope this helps. Rich
