What would be the best thing to use to wash a badly bloody whitetail cape prior to going in the new Krowtann? Would the Liquid Tide be the thing to use for pre-tan as indicated in the instructions for post tanning? Also has anyone seen any effects using Stop Rot prior to tanning and use of Krowtann. Wanting to try it out just these few concerns that I did not find in the achrives.
Thanks for any and all info

Just was h the cape with water and laundry soap tide will work fine.
Work it into the bloody are, then rinse well, rinse 3 times in a 5 gallon bucket with running water to float the soap to the top.
Then follow the KROWTANN directions.
I have had very good luck getting blood out with no side effects to the hide using peroxide bought from walmart....I roughly flesh my hides then lay them out flesh out then rub the peroxide on all the flesh.1 32 oz jug will do 2 deer capes then I rinse with water real good then put it in the krowtann mix and go with the krowtann directions from there...Hope this helps..
the answer is in the Archives, I saw it go in, but I couldn't find it either. I looked for the original post just a few days ago for someone else.
Here is what has been posted just in the past few days:
Stop-Rot ... Krowtann 2000 (11/3/04) www.taxidermy.net/forums/BeginnersArticles/04/k/048083E535.html
Glenn I think you saved the (my) day (11/6/04) www.taxidermy.net/forums/BeginnersArticles/04/k/04825E2020.html
Last Sunday night I published this article on the web:
HOW EFFECTIVE IS STOP-ROT AS A PRESERVATIVE?
Here's the link, you decide!
STOP-ROT and Long Term Performance

Check out the blood photos, before and after.
Here is a quote from an article I have in the works at this time, but I do not know as to when I will get it published.
"Any one that has used STOP-ROT on fresh capes knows that there is frequently a gooey, sticky fluid produced.
I have been able to produce a similar fluid by reacting STOP-ROT with household ammonia, the cleaner Fantastik, and dog urine, and allowing water to evaporate off.
You are probably wondering who in their right mind would do such things? Another obvious answer, no one.
I keep telling everybody that everything is simple, once someone figures it out. The thing that deer capes, ammonia, Fantastik, and dog urine have in common is.........nitrogen. STOP-ROT does seem to run a little deeper than just a simple nitrogen "fixer, or stabilizer", but that is only one part of the quo."
Again that article isn't finished, so don't jump to a whole lot of conclusions on what you just read in the quote, except for the Fantastik. Many of the modern surfactant products sold contain the same active ingredients. When one compound neutralizes another, effectiveness of both can be eliminated.
Another article in the works is at this address:
http://www.hidetanning.net/HypodermisBubbles.html
You will have to copy and paste that one in your browser to be able to access it. The photos show gases being trapped under the hypodermis layer. The gases are from decompositions that are not bacterial. You will see the entrance wound photos show the most gas produced. Check out the time frames.
I wash with Dawn or Tide.
No problem using StopRot before Krowtann.

Thanks everyone for the info.. Live and Learn just don't let the learning kill ya first..
