rated for 50 lbs. Instrustions I think say to operate at 35#-50#. But it may make your's go Kaboom. Be carefull and test it outside with a long hose, and stand far away or around the corner.

You should operate it at 35- 50 pounds of pressure.
The tanks are safety checked to 500 lbs; but tanning does not happen any faster at pressures over 50 lbs; while 35 lbs seems to be the minimum pressure to take advantage of the system.
I have run mine at 45# for over 5 years, for everything from bobcats to buffalo.
To tan the heavier hides you should run them 5-6 hours , drain and shave, return to the same solution for additional time; repeat if necessary until the hide is properly tanned and thinned.
You could shave the hide while raw before starting the tanning to speed up the thicker ones.
