I'm doing a flat, soft, whitetail rug with a suede cloth backing. It's tanned, dry, broken and soft, now I just have to put the backing on. The only problem is, I'm not super satisfied with it's irregular shape in some areas. I'd prefer it to lay flat, but still soft.
Any recommendations?

Rehydrate in plain water nothing added. When wet, stretch it on a sheet of plywood and pin down the edges. Smooth out any bulges or warps and pin until the whole thing is stretched out and flat. When dry, it will retain the shape and lie flat.
