Ez-100 Shrinkage?

Submitted by Dazed & Confused on 12/27/04 at 2:10 PM. ( )

I left a couple of whitetail capes in my ez-100 solution for about 48 hours when I removed them they have shrunken substantially. Is this from leaving them in the solution over 24 hours or did I do something else wrong? How can I get them stretched back to size?

Normally 16-20 hours will do!

EZ-100 is considered a "fast tanning agent". We highly recommend only soaking them in the tanning solution for 16-20 hours. And NEVER over 24 hours.

Over 24 hours allows the tan to begin cross-linking, or in other words - during the first 24 hours the tan bonds to the fibers - but after 24 hours and depletion from your solution - the tan begins to also form cross-links to adjacent tanned sites too!

While your skin or cape will appear tanned, even soft - it will also be much like a handkerchief! It wont have any stretch and if you try to distort or stretch it - it will have memory and try to return to its original shape. This is undesirable for Taxidermy work.

place it in worm water then steak it
