Is my imagination, or are their quite a few Fur Dressing companys advertising in this forum for free, on a regular basis? I dont see other suppliers on here selling eyes, forms, clay, etc. Some will respond when asked about their products, but I dont see anything wrong with that. I made a comment on here one time about some Tannery adds I saw in Breakthrough, and I was wrong to do that. That was just me being a little TOO competative. Every add in that magazine was bought and paid for, and probablly at a big expence! I just got A problem with this barrage of free advertising. At least I just preach sending your skins out to be tanned, not giving a name,address, and phone# to send em to! Does anyone else notice this, or is it just me?

I don't see a problem with giving people giving good recommendations for tanneries or any other products. I like to know where I would or would not send my valuable skins to. This website does not have a policy against it as far as I know. I am guilty of giving recommendations out too. In fact I just did it a few days ago to someone who wanted to tan a steer, but I knew of a tannery that would handle cattle skins at a reasonable price. Maybe I am wrong but I don't see anything wrong with advertising through word of mouth. I think the tanneries should rely on their customer base to advertise on a free website.
2. Commercial messages are allowed within reason if they contain interesting information for all visitors of this forum. If in doubt, please contact the forum administrator. Commercial ads with prices are specifically not allowed unless the item advertised is a very special single quantity item.
It relates to taxidermy thats what this is for.Thank god its not politics.
I couldnt agree with you more. I see nothing wrong with one Taxidermist reccomending their tanner or home tanning product to another. Its yalls site! But should Tannery owners themselves be allowed to promote their service? No other suppliers promote their products on this site.(that I know of) The Tannerys doing this are not gonna run anyone else out of business, but I just see it as a matter of principle. Let em pay their dues, without the free advertising. This post is really directed at them. They know who they are.
I dont think name, address, and phone# quilifies as interesting information- its just plain advertising.
I guess I agree with oldshaver.I once put out a request for work, but on a single item that not a lot of places will handle, and for that I apologize.
It would seem that someone reccomending a tannery, and someone asking you to send your capes to them are two very diffrent things. One is a request for information, one is a solicitation for work.Dont get me wrong, I have a small tanning business,but it would seem to be about timing and placement.

is word of mouth among the consumers, based on good quality and service, i think its great they dont want commercial ads on here,let our debates and constuctive arguments speak as their ads, anyone can tell you anything about a product, but who knows better than the ones with the hands on experience
Oldshaver don't you have anything better to do then worry about other people, getting free advertising or not. Are some of these guys taking s ome of your work, thats why you have all this free time on this site.

Get off your ass and go to some shows and put your product up against others. I work 60 hrs a week. If you think sitting behind your computer and begging for work is gonna cut it, you are a fool. I aint worried about you folks taking any work, as I said before, ITS PRINCIPLE! Since we are doing over 1000 deer a week, every week, your probablly the one that needs a job!LOL
1000 deer a week ? thats a pretty big "WE", just because YOU work for a place, or purhaps even own an idotically assumtive 1000 deer a week opporation dosn't meen you not plopped down on your oldshaver ass giving out unneeded advise, not to mention unwanted comments. I have never responded to a comment but that 1000 deer a week thing just sent me over! Ha! I'm sure your setting there waiting for a response "NOTHING ELSE TO DO" I guess you've mounted about 20,000 deer this 2005 already! Ha! HA!
Steve,if you even bothered to read anything, I am not a Taxidermist, nor have I ever mounted anything. You missed her completely man. The Tannery I work for TANS 1000to 1300 a week, depending on how many bears, african, and small game you throw into the mix. Yes, I have a minimum of 1000 deer go thru my hands every week. WAKE UP MAN!
Just for the record, Oldshaver does get a chance to handle 200 deer in a day. If you figure six or seven guys are shaving drums of 80 to 90 deer per drum and they do 2 to 3 drums a day, you do the math.
I don't advertise my business here, but if someone comes in this forum and gives out my pertinent info, I can't help that. (It hasn't happened yet) That is word of mouth. If the business owners want to give out contacts, that still is a small part of the advertising mix. If that was the only way to market the business, there would be a lot of tanneries folding up shop.
Another way to look at it is this, why do people come here and ask for the name of a tanner when the supplier lists have 30 or 40 different tanneries just at this website alone?

He has also had Taxidermists tour his shop, posing as customers, and then found out later that they opened a tannery! What kind of business ethics are these?
