What I do is place the skin or cape in 5 gallons of water 1 oz. of kemal 4 and one half ounce of bactericide by Rittle and 5 pounds of salt. I leave it in there till it is relaxed. A deer cape usually takes about 7 to 8 hours. Then drain rinse and put in the pickle.

try Rittles Ultra Soft, its all you need. No salt or bacteriacide. Salt is cheap but using so much and then getting rid of it is a pain, in the back also. It seems to have a detergent in it also, for you guys that want to wash capes all the time. 5 to 6 hours is all i've ever needed to rehydrate a salted deer cape before it goes to pickle.

I usually only use one hand full of salt and half ounce of Rittels bactericide per gallon. It takes about 4 hours in the bucket and them refrigerate over night. I live in a hot climate so I let them relax in the fridge.
