Hi, Bruce I got a question for ya I messed something up good this time and im wondering if you can help me figure out what I did wrong.
Im using saftee acid pickle and EZ-100 tan on the last batch that I took out I held 1 cape back to mount right away and I froze the rest.
I wasnt able to mount it right away I did prepwork on it 3 days prior to mounting but it was kept in a bag on the floor infront of the door on my shop so when I took it out it was usually partially frozen. Anyway on the 4th day I finally unfolded the whole cape to prepare to mount the deer that day, I noticed the cape seemed to be really slimy and swollen so I shave it again seemed great for about a week, I combed it out again on saturday and it started loosing quite a bit of hair a couple spots about the size of my fist. What did I do? What can I do to save the other capes that I tanned w/ it/
Thanks Bruce

I find mtyself with little time to work on my capes so I always work a bit - freeze them and then thaw and do some more. Obviously they are all Saftee Acid pickled and EZ-100 tanned.
All I can guess is that the cape you took out may have been too wet - and simply keeping it in the front door of your shop for 3 days wasnt enough. The epidermis had time to begin to pulp and weaken and slip!
I suggest on the other capes you freeze them each time after preping them. If you find you have to do this several times - you may lose some stretch as they lose water. To regain the stretch - simply rehydrate them again - and I've found they do come back.
