Lip is too high or your guards are not set correctly.

Check your mounting!

A loose mounting or maybe a spongy base on your table can cause the machine to vibrate just enough to cause such lines. Or - it could be a worn or bad bearing causing it.

Been there

I had bought a new Quebec Lite with an extra blade last year and from the first time I turned it on it done the same thing. It had nothing to do with the guards at all. it was a bad blade period. It had been the way it was ground. I dont know how they done it' but it was not perfectly round at all. I should have called them and let them know' but I really did not want to hear him say that it was the user and not the blade. I put the other blade on' NO MORE SKIPS sorry' I did not mean to yell.

we call em jumps

Try steeling it out. Could have gotten it too hot when grinding-will warp the blade, could have gotten dinged during shipping, could have rushed the grind-dull, too many possibilities here. Some other things have already been mentioned. This is one of these things you would need to see for yourself to diagnose.

I have an old Rew Hide

That'll do that every now and then. Turns out that the motor is mounted underneath and the weight of the motor puts the tension on the belt. Work her too fast and she jumps, leaving these skips. Now I don't know if your setup is like this or not but you might want to tension that belt a little better.

oops

Shawn
Most of the problems above could be the cause but 9 out of 10 times its a dull spot on the blade or a place on the blade that is not at the same angle as the rest of the blade. You should be able to use light pressure on the blade with your steels and correct the problem it might take 15 min or so but try tunning the blade a little then run it on the edge of the skin but be carefull not to cut in after a few times keep checking the blade by running it on the skin. It should clear up.

The best way to see if this is the problem is to speed up or slow down the passing of the skin if the skip marks get closer together or farther apart when you change the speed that you pass the skin by the blade then that is your problem if not then it could be anything ie bad bearings, or loose mounting bolts, bad blade.

Hope it helps

Paul
