Coyote Question.

I have a couple coyotes being shipped to me. I assume they will be thawed when they get here. Here is the question....what is the best way to keep these from slipping. Should I throw it in a pickle right away? any help will be greatly appreciated. I have tried the search button but I am new to tanning and really didn't understand it all. Over my head.

Depends

It all depends on the condition of the coyotes. How long were they froze before you got them? how long were they left before they were froze? If they come hole un-skun thawed. I would skin, flesh and salt them right away they slip easy some times. Hang on they are a hand full in my book. Good Luck Jack F

If you get it already skinned, Flesh, split and turn the nose, eyes, ears, lips, ASAP. If its thawed I wouldn't re-freeze it, Jack is right, you don't know how long it was out before it got to you. Get it done, and get it into some salt ASAP to set the hair and keep bacteria in check.

pickle?

My pickle is the salt, vinegar and water pickle. If I flesh them when they get here and turn everything and throw them in the pickle for a couple days should that do it? Also is there any shaving needed when taken out of the pickle like big game? Do they shrink much? I have notice antelope I have pickled shrunk an inch or so. Just wanting to know so I order the right form. They were well taken care of and frozen right after they were caught, thawed to skin and shipped to me. I got them from JR Howard and he does guarantee them.

Salt them

and dry them hard, after you flesh and turn. Are you tanning things, or just pickling them?

pickling and then using liquid tan. Is that a problem. Does the pickle not set the hair? I figured with all the salt it would.

I just wondered,

since you didn't say anything about tanning. It sounds like you're on the right track.
