Is there anybody out there?

I have submitted a question a couple of times and no one has answered. Does this mean nobody knows or what. Some kind of a response would be greatly appreiated.

A customer brought me a bobcat pelt that has already been prof. tanned. The pelt was tube cut, from the rear-end and has a soft tan. Is there any speacial way to rehydrate the skin to mount or can you even rehydrate a soft tan?

Just my opinion but I would not soak it in clear water. I always rehydrate in salt water. I use a handful of salt for every one gallon of water.

The reason I didn't answer and the reason others who often help didn't answer is that THE ANSWER IS ALREADY THERE IF YOU LOOK. Click the orange SEARCH icon and type in "rehydration". There are a ton of other invaluable tips and answers to almost every question imaginable there.

thanks

The reason I have to rehydrate is the hide needs to stretch for the manikin. And George, I tried the search but the question was to broad and I could not find the answer that I was looking for. I just assumed that being a soft tan that it would need different treatment.

I..

didn't answer because different tanneries have different recomendations that suit their tans. My tannery, which I won't mention, suggest 1#(cup and a half) of salt for every 5 gallons of water and a soak of 20-30 minutes. Then sweat overnight and get busy! Peace- Jeff F.
