turn around time for tannery

Ok guys...how long do you wait to get your stuff back from the tannery? I'm pushing 4 months now...and I keep getting the run around! I'm not dropping off 50 capes at a time...and I keep being told they're using my capes as "fillers" for the big batches. In my opinion...first come should be first served regardless of quantity!

depending on time of year. The longest I ever waited was 6 weeks and that was in the middle of deerseason.

Did you call them first and inquire about turn-around time? The place where I send mine told me straight out it would be 4 to 5 months before I would see it back.

"Fillers for big batches"? That is an odd way of running skins through the shop. The only time that might happen is if they didn't have enough skins to make up a special order. In that case, then they probably wouldn't have a turn around issue.

Hides are normally placed into batches for production based on the number of pieces or weight of hides. It really does not matter who the hides belong to in the batch. That is where the hide's code comes into play.

Sounds to me like your tannery has a lot of work that it can't process in the advertised time, whatever that was. Did you ask them about turn around times?

New method was running over a year on delivery. A very long time ago, and your only waiting 4 months ?

First come-

first served, is the way it should be done. Of course, tannerys will work in a rush order or two, but that doesnt effect turnaround time much. As said before, the term fill-in does sound kind of strange. Six months is not out of the realm of possibillity at a good tannery. I would worry more about a tanner with too quick of a turn around. Unless it is just getting started, the good Tannerys are going to have at fair backlog this time of year. A tannery that has been in business 4 or 5 years and is still advertising a 5 week turnaround is not getting much repeat business.

My tannery has been in business 25 plus years and is very very good. They still have a 4 week turn a round time. Maybe they just learned how to run their business more efficiently and effectively by having more employees. I don't know, but what I do know is that I am more then happy with their quality of tan as well as their turn a round time.

They have a good turn around time. Right around 60 days and the tan is great!
