folds in tanned horse hide

I have a customer that has a old tanned horse hide that has been folded up and stored away now he wants to hang it but it has fold marks in it. How can he get these out, can it be oiled with something or softened somehow to get them out.

Tanned hide, over time forms a "memory" that once in place is almost impossible to get rid of. Your only hope might depend on submerging the hide in warm water for a couple hours and then sweating it overnight. Next day, stretch it out until dried. This MIGHT get rid of the folds.

I would not touch it

first it is an old tanned hide,if factory tanned and you soak it in water, their is a very good chance that it could fall apart. The skin could, and probably still has acid in it.
All i would do is try to fold the skin the opposite way of the folds, and maybe steap on it to fix up the probles, clean it and that is all. I would never garrenty this type of work.
this is only my opinion.
