Washing syn-tanned capes?

I have some syn-tanned deer capes that I would like to give a final rinse. Would the rinse damage the hyde and cause slippage? The capes have already been broken for rug mounting and I noticed some minor dirt flakes in the hair when I was brushing the coat.

COmpressed air is a better choice.

Yea you can wash them, but you will be washing the oils out.

The oils is what stops the hide from cracking with any tan.

Mount the rug up, have it finished ready to go tne use a twisted wire and air to blow the dirt and crap out of it, while beating the rug.

A plain water rinse wont hurt!

Using a plain water rinse wont hurt the skin. Just beware of using detergents - they sometimes are persistent and tend to leave a residue that persists unless you really rinse extremely well.

Thanks John and Bruce
