Come on now stop and think about this. If you can tan with it, why would you not be able to pickle with it?
The A/T is simply moving the skin and this allows it to work like washing a rag.
You can do the same think in a washing machine, but the seals will go ut very quickly.
I really dont know about the pressure part.
This is my theory. The air pres. compresses the skin, this squeezes the blood and fluid out of the hide, as the skin tumbles the chemical get down into the pores and thru the membranes of the cell walls.
Take a dirty rag in a clean bucket of water and see what happens.
The pressure may make the chemicals push thru the walls a bit quicker.
You can pickle two hides in 30 minutes in the A/T
In my auto tanner, I pickle for three or four hours at 50#, neutralize 30 minutes after a shave, rinse clear, and tan in lutan f for three hours at 50#. Works well for me.
Thanks to you all.
John C...I know i can pickle in the auto tanner. I wanted to know how long to pickle for.I am going to tan my competition piece in it and wanted to make sure it got pickled long enough.thanks for the info.
check the pH thats all I would do. I might start it a bit lower than my standard 3.5
