and didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I am tanning a skunk for a customer who just wants a tanned skin. When he brought it to me it was already stretched and dried. I pickled it, neutralized and put McKenzie tan on it to tan. The thing is still a little stinky, but the main problem is it's rather greasy. Can I wash it in some degreaser or tide or dawn then apply the liqua soft and break it to soften?

I relaxthe skunk in a strong brine of 1 lb of salt to a gal of water for at least 10 -12 hrs, until soft anyway's.I'll then fleash any built up fat area's that would be on the skin, a lot of times if you hang them by the nose when drying the fat will bleed and run to tail end of the hide causing a heavybuilt up of fatty oil.
Ihave never use a degreaser other than white gas or mineral spirits, wash it with dawn before pickling then neutralize and wash again if it still stinks
