auto tanner vs old way

Hello, my question is, If the auto tanner is so much faster than the coventional way of tanning a hide, then why don't alot of guys that have been tanning the old way make the switch, It is faster, and more economical, and takes up less room in the shop. Somebody please correct me if I am missing something here. Do you get a better quality tanned hide in the autotanner vs. the old way of tanning? I am just curious to get a few professional opinions on this subject. Steve Rottamel,(forgive me if I misspelled your name) I am really wanting to hear your opinion on this, TY ALL,GOD BLESS

I use either the A/T or Krowtann

If you are good at shaving you can tan two capes in 2 1/2 hours with the A/T so if you work a long day on Monday you can have a weeks work tanned. $35.00 per cape verse. So figure that in one 10 hour day you can tan $350.00 worth of tanning of capes, salting time is cut ZERO, waiting time is cut ZERO, SHIPPING TIME is CUT ZERO.

You can spend two weeks tanning all the deer capes and still store the wet cape in the freezer ready to mount!

No worry about the cape slipping during drying.
No worry about the cape slipping during relaxing.
No worry about the cape being ripped up by some goof at the tannery.
No worry about the cape having cuts that take time to repair.

NO WORRY ABOUT THE CAPES BEING LOST AT THE TANNERY OR DURING SHIPPING

Best of all YOU HAVE 100% CONTROL of the CAPE 100% of the TIME!

KROWTANN is GREAT as it also allows you 100% CONTROL over the skins.

For small game follow the directions exactly, use your bird flesher to wheel the skins, being carefull to not heat the skin and you can KROWTANN the skin almost as fast as D.P.
You will have a skin that is tanned, without the chance of having slippage and you can use a hide paste with it.

Many of us have made the switch to tanning years ago from DP because in humid areas DP will cause slippage.

These are my opinions they have worked for me! These are not based on any GUESSING or hoping something will work they do work they are simple and time tested, time effective.

AT

I've just been at this a few years but I'm finding I like my auto tanner more each time I use it. I have room in my studio for both methods and do salt and pickle some of my work. As I get better at fleshing with my Dakota V, I have found the AT capes shave much easier with less likelyhood of cutting holes. There is no doubt of the time savings.

Still early Chuck

You have to keep in mind that one method has been around for quite some time and the other is fairly new. Many in this industry have found a way they like to do things and stick with it. I feel that in time (could be one year, could be 10) that you will see more and more of the A/T. If the initial cost was relatively cheap, nearly everyone would have one.
