I recently purchased a whitetail doe cape that was comercially tanned. It had to be the nicest doe cape id ever seen. I soaked it in room temp water for 45 minutes and when I pulled it out of the water it just fell apart like a wet paper bag. Has anyone ever seen this? Did I do something wrong?

..Its happened to me several times in the past. The cape either was too old or was not neutralized enough during the tanning process. Theres more in the archives regarding this...

Salt when you rehydrated the cape. 4oz. to the gallon when you do this. If not that also could have played a part, plus Adam is also right. Call the tannery up and explain to them what happened.
