I work in a lab at a waste water treatment plant. I have access to lots of different chemical, including Liquid Alum. What kinds of Chemical could i use to TAN.

Also what could I use for a Pickle Solution?

Will Ascorbic Acid work?

Tanning

Brad, I have tanned hundreds of deer capes with Alum obtained from a waste water plant. I also use it today for removing the slime from fish before skinning.I wouldn't use Alum today for tanning, as there are better alternatives on the market.
I don't think Ascorbic acid would work, as it is better known as Vitamin C. It would have to be a very strong solution to drop the PH in the pickle.
Try the Saftee Acid advertised by several suppliers, as this seems to work for a lot of people.
Hope this helps.
