Dirty Sheepskin

A few months ago, I helped a friend slaughter a large domestic ram. It had such a beautiful wool coat that I couldn't bear to waste it. I have never tanned anything before, but I decided this was the time to begin. I know this an ambitious project to start with, but I think I can make it work. The hide is already fleshed and salted. I am planning on tanning it using an oxalic acid solution. The problem that I have is that the wool is very thick - about 6 inches - and filthy. What should I use to wash the fur? In many places it is also matted with burrs. Does anybody have any magic remedies for this? I hate to loose such a potentially beatiful rug.

When it comes to Sheepskins you need something that will cut the Lanolin and loosen the debris (otherwise known as dirt). Another consideration is that it also rinses free and is not absorbed by the Wool! Other degreasers persist and do not rinse free.

We sell a product called Wool Degreaser (WD-608) that does all of that! Go to our website at: http://Rittelsupplies.net

The product is listed in our on-line pricelist under the category "auxiliary agents"
