When it comes to pickleing a bear I have heard it takes anyware from 24 hours to a week. Whats with the huge difference or is it just peoples opinions? Also how long should a deer cape be in the pickle? Thanks

three days (minimum) shave and degrease then return to pickle for atleast another day, the neutralize and tan.
for me it only takes about 45 minutes to pickle a bear. The process is to tranquilize the critter, first. Next you need to put it on a trapper. A trapper is the device the holds the animal down while you pickle it, this is to avoid the danger of the animal coming to. You can purchase this at Bob's sports. Usually the big guy is so heavy that you need to keep him on his stomach, while he's still in the wild, of course, give him a test poke with a big stick, then start pickling. And when you are done, just leave him there in the rough, pull up your skivvys and get on truckin' cowboy! Now deers are different only due to taste and preference, my pickling with deers usually only lasts about 10-15 minutes.

at the post titled "Soft and flexible Tan" its all there! joe
If you use Saftee Acid - let it pickle for 3 days before you begin to shave or degrease it. For shaving - you want a plump skin thats firm and fully pickled. DON'T pull it out and work with it before 3 days! Trying to hurry it thru the process only causes problems.
