Im just wondering what Alum is and what it does when you add it to a pickle.

Add alum to your pickle to help set the hair; its astringent characteristics will draw the skin tight around the follicles.
1 lb for a 20 gal pickle is sufficient.
why would u put alum on a pickle? that would taste bad...
