first time tanning.neutralized the pickle.the hide has been back in 6 hrs and the ph on the skin wont go above 3-3.5 .the directions said it would take 2 hrs.just keep waiting,or any other tricks i can do?thanks

What kind of "tan" are you using? You said "neutralized the pickle" the hide been back in 6hrs. where did you get the directions? Here is the cold hard fact. You pickle, then mix a neutralizing bath of water and baking soda, neutralize for 20 min. then it gets tanned. UNLESS! You are using an old alum tan recipe, then you change the ph of your pickle by adding borax (I think), then use the pickle as your tan. In witch case the ph should be between 3 to 4.5. next time be more clear on EXACTLY what you are doing before you ask questions like that. Joseph R Osborn (Hunter's Dream Taxidermy)
