rehydrating a salted deer cape

Hello, I just bought a salt dried deer cape. Can someone please explain to me how to rehydrate it. It is totally dry. Thanks

Rehydrate in 1 pound of salt to each gallon of water.

is plenty of salt. I think a full pound is a waste of salt.
