A truck carrying 700+ cow hides wrecked in texas Thursday june 30,05. My husband brought me one home. The driver said he was coming from Greely, Colorado and going to Eagle pass, Texas. He also said that the hides had gone through a process where they put them in a solution of salt, wrung out, folded inside out and loaded on the truck. It's been 3 days now since the wreck. I just got it and it's a beautiful, black hide and huge. I have it draped over a 500 lb. propane tank right now which is tubular in shape. It is dryed out on the edges but it is still wet and stinky. I have been reading in a hurry as to what to do next. I didn't know at first that it had gone through that salt/water process and was preparing to cure it. I want to know if I still need to. It has some wrinkles in it where it was folded. I'm at a loss. I dont want this beautiful skin to be wasted. Please help with all advice. Thanks and happy fourth!

get about 100 pounds of white salt. will only cost about $10.00 and pour the salt on the flesh side, rub it in good. and roll it up flesh side in, and lay it on an incline. then call the local taxidermist for further instruction. Joe
