Now, why would a brand new tan on a brand new new skin, rip as in dry rot?
Also, cracking like potato chips on noses, legs, bellies.
Some bellies and necks ripped out.
I believe the skins were not neutralized at all, and were tumbled while very acidic.
I also think a poor quality cheap grease (oil) was used, and not enough of it.
I have never had this effect on any of my own skins, even those I dipped in straight alum as a test and re-tanned 2 mos. later. You should see some of these rips. I'll get pictures!
It's an alum tan. It was done professionally at a tannery in USA. I will not post the name, don't ask, because I don't libel. The process went: "tumble to make them softer", soak in water?, soak in formic acid and water?, soak in alum, flesh (shave), soak in alum, tumble, soak in alum, grease, tumble, cage, ship. I will call tomorrow and find out if neutralization was done. I know tumbling was substituted for degreasing which I never approved of, but had to go along with.
The skins were just returned today and have only been finished for about 8-9 days. I'm hoping to get rid of this rip & chip effect by re-tanning with chrome.
For some strange reason, this is not present at all on one species, but present in many cases on another species. Both species had the same pre-tannery treatments.
Nobody was over-fleshed, nobody was over-drummed, appears as if MOST instructions were obeyed. These turned out a bit better then if I'd done them, in that they are much softer "garment tanned", so it's not so bad.
I'm still looking for a good, used fleshing machine because I can do better then this, if I had one.

You are mistaking me for someone else. Don't you know how to check IP Addresses. Also, sentences begin with caps and there are little spaces between the words. You will rarely find any mis spellings in my posts. I beg to differ on my tanning skills.
I have read your jibberish on at least one other site as well. I really do not see the point in your postings and it is pretty evident I am not the only one. I doubt you are the fur handling genius that you claim to be and I highly doubt you could tan your own hide. At least you didn't try to blow smoke up our rears on this site with your technical jargon (also known as you don't have a clue what you are talking about). As far as suing a tannery because you don't like their tan, good luck. Every tannery that I have ever used has a disclaimer that they are not responsible for the end results of the tanning process. Instead of bitching about every tannery that you use, I guess it is time you show us all how great of job you can do. My personal opionion is that your main criteria for selecting a tannery is probably $$$$$$ and if you want to pay illegals minimum wage you are getting what you paid for. By the way it is only libel when you are spouting things that aren't true.
