second question

Hello again,
After spending three hours thru the archives, I still have not found a definite answer.
The question is, when using EZ100 and after the final oiling, can I let the hide dry, without breaking, to be relaxed later for mounting?
I have found several references of doing this with Liqua tan, but not
EZ100. I do not want to freeze the skins after oiling. I also do not have a drum, and do not intend to make rugs. This is strictley for Taxidermy purposes.
Thanks,
Jim

UNIVERSAL TANNED CAPE OR LIFESIZE SKIN RELAXING METHOD

This method is called the Universal method because it works on almost every tanned skin or cape safely. It takes the guesswork out of properly relaxing a skin or cape before mounting, but more importantly, it also prevents acid swelling. Bacteriacide is not needed for this method.

1. Soak the tanned skin or cape for 30 minutes in a mild salt solution using:
To every 1 Gallon of Water used, add a
Handful of Salt (4 Ozs. by weight).
2. Remove the skin or cape from the solution soaking wet, and place it in a plastic garbage bag. Use a tie to twist it shut, and then refrigerate it overnight. Do not freeze.
3. The next day, remove the skin or cape, and prep it before mounting.

I do this all the time!

Jim - I'm one of those guys that likes to save his freezer for meat - so I rarely freeze anything. When I tan a cape or skin to be mounted I simply tan, rinse, drain, oil, sweat in the oil, tumble it or shake it in a bag of sawdust with Odorless Mineral Spirits added, then blow it off, and hang it to dry!

I prefer to hang it in my shop as opposed to freezing it. Plus - I dont have to worry about losing the freezer and spoiling my mounts!

Once dried then I use the above relaxing method to relax the piece before prep and mounting.
