You will have to excuse me but I am new to the tumbling world.I am thinking of building one and wanted to know if there is a difference between what kinds of tans produce what kind of results.I use the liqua tan proccess but don't tumble but I thought it would only add to the end result.Does anyone here use liqua tan on their hides and then throw them in a tumbler? How long do you leave them in for ?Do you wash the liqua tan off first then tumble? If you have the time and don't mind please tell me your proccess .thinking of building a 6' tumbler

Tumblers are for "breaking" hides for soft tans. If you're tanning to mount for taxidermy, then breaking the hide is unnecessary and the Liqui-tan is simply washed off and the hide mounted. If you intend to have a soft rug type hide done, you wash it and then dry it in the oversized drums. For a dry tan/soft tan, I think Bruce Rittel recommends an 8 foot tumbler.

i have also heard that tumbling helps clean and soften a hide.I have had wet tans that were tumbled.I was just wondering if tumbling enhanced the outcome of a liqua tanned hide.

i always tumble...

ALL of my krowtanned hides for the exact reason you mentioned - shining and cleaning - wouldn't do it any other way
