Scraping goat skin

Hello!

Today I‘ve started scraping my first goat hide. I need this hide for a friend who wants to make a rawhide backing for his bow.

Could you please have a look at both pics and tell me if I still have to do some scraping (dry scraping?) on both sides. I still have some goat skins in the freezer and would like to do some braintanning.

Thanks for your help!

But the flesh side needs some more work. You should remove ALL the white "Membrane". looks good otherwise. Joe

For rawhide

what you have is just fine but if you are going to tan them Joe is correct, you need to remove all of the membrane.

Not so fast John.

If the Rawhide was for a dog chew toy/treat, it would be fine. However this is for backing a bow. The rawhide I have made for backing bows had a small amount of membrane left on the hide and had to be sanded off. Joe

True

That is true. I'll eat my words. I have never backed a bow with rawhide, always sinew.
