at my tannery we know to expect ph drop as the hides tan. that is why we add amonia or baking soda water and stir it in as the tanning progresses. we try our utmost to keep the tan at a ph of 4. if your doing this why would you have a problem with neutralization. actually its a safer way to neutralize. less loss from epidermis slip like you get with the fast hard neutralizing step. esopecially on thin skins like fox coyote.
