some neck hair slipping on a deer

currently mounting a customer deer. when caping out some hair in spots are falling out of neck area and edge of cape near shoulder.
have fleshed out cape and salted it down completely. question is how long should i leave it with salt on and can i wash out the salt later without all the hair falling out. I am afraid to pickle it and tan it and am leaning towards a quick wash dry and dry preservative mount. any suggestions?

And keep it dry prior to pickling and DO pickle ASAP. Your pickle impedes slippage better than just about anything.
