Salting capes

I was just wondering if it would be okay to leave a cape that was just salted, on a trapping stretcher hanging up in a closed, cool barn with a fan on, just until the cape dries hard? My parents dont want me drying salted capes in my shop in our basement. I can't smell anything (I truly think it is all in their head) but they complain about a "stink" in our house. I always keep the shop cleaned daily, so I don't know what they are complaining about. But just to keep the mess down I'd like to salt my capes and let them dry in our barn. What do you all think? Thanks in advance,

Nina
