Wondering if anyone could help shed some light on a subject. I was told that after salting a hide for the second time that if you send the salt through a sort of screen for seperating that you could re-use the salt...... any truth to this? Just looking to save some money.

I'm not gonna tell you that you can't BUT with the Salt you are not talking much money. With Tanning a number of things can go wrong. Stack the deck in your favor - don't shortcut any of the steps - use NEW salt each time.
If there's little to no fluids in the second salting I throw it in my pickle vat. If the salt is really clean I'll use it for a first salting.
do I re use salt. Andy O you are asking for trouble down the line.
Brent H, it is up to you, as cheap as salt is, I never reuse it. Plenty of people do reuse it. But why take a chance as Brent said so well, don't take ANY short cuts in taxidermy. The pickle is for killing bacteria, so why add more bacteria to it by using tainted salt? What do you save? 25 cents?
