ok i have skined fleshed and salted then tacked down the hide how long should i leave it tacked down to dry before i can do something with the hide,also should i salt it often or is one heavy dose enough?

what makes you think the salt is going to keep the skin from spoiling? You need to tan it up if you want it to last.

I had salt dried snakes that I used for long bow backing. The only thing protecting the skin is the clear coat on the bow. I have one that has been on the bow for close to 10 years and is in terrific shape. However, I did start tanning them a couple of years ago with Rittels EZ 100.
