Has anyone ever sent any deer capes to Micro Tan in Illinoise? Are they pretty good? Also, do you know of any good tanneries that will accept a single cape? I am a beginning taxidermist and have one cape that needs to be tanned, but I noticed that some tanneries such as Carolina Fur Dressers won't accept capes from the general public. Does this mean that I have to be in the taxidermy business to send them a cape?

Im not sure, but I think its a 50% extra charge, maybe 100%. You will need a business name, and a tax ID number, to get wholesale. This is just a way of helping to prevent the general public from attempting to mount their own deer,(however crapy they may look) there-by skipping the Taxidermist, and costing the Taxidermist money. The Taxidermists keep Tannerys alive, and running, so the tannerys dont want to bite the hand that is feeding them. Everyone has to start some where though, and meeting those requirements is not that difficult.
For only one cape, you could look in you're area for a taxidermist to tan it for you. There are so many ways to tan, that you could do it you're self. You just need to be brave. You can even find a practice cape along the road somewhere. If this is you're first try, you may not want to spend the 50 % extra on a practice mount. In the future when you get farther down the road and have loads of customers, you can send all of the capes to Oldshaver.

I wouldn't use micro tan on even one cape, unless you want to learn how to sew holes and do a lot of repair work!
