I know alot of you will say send it to a tannery, well I want to try this myself, because I use to send things to a tannery. I was wondering what steps to do a bear rug in my auto tanner. Would I
1. rough shave
2. salt and drain
3. resalt and let dry
4. relax and degrease
5. now do I pickle with saftee acid and use acid bate, or can I add the acid bate in my auto tanner? or do I not use the acid bate, and just use my auto-tanner like I usually do, just adding the arrowhead and ez-100 to the ratio suggested for rugs.
6. let run for a few hours drain and shave
7. put back in and let run overnight
8. drain and rinse the hide
9. drain and oil
10. let it start to dry, brake the hide and tumble with sawdust
11. rehydrate and mount head
12. rehydrate and stretch body
If there is anything I left out any suggestions would be great. I use Bruce Rittel's products, if this helps. this is my first attempt at making a bear rug tanning myself. Thanks for any input. Todd
