Any new opinions on Van Dykes tanning crystals. They are about 1/2 the price but do they work as well.If I call Van Dyke I'm sure they will tell they are the same chemical compounds. And is the Protel oil as good. Thanx Kevin M.

At one time that was about all that was available and I used it for years. Great lanolin based, water soluble oil. It's one thing you can use without wearing rubber gloves.

The tanning crystals are citric acid which is a good pickle. If you price shop and do some math you will find that saftee acid will go much further. Also on the oil subject, if you are looking to get soft skins use Knobloch's #1 tanning oil. I didn't care for the Protal Oil at all.
