Tumbling schedule

Submitted by paul on 11/23/05 at 12:52 PM. ( )

I want to begin tumbling my hides before mounting. I have gone through the posts but have not found anything that gives a set rule of thumb for tumbling time. Example Deer 15min,coyote 10min etc. I maybe asking for the impossible but any help would be appreciated. The best is probably keep checking the hide for pliability and stretch but some sort of guideline would be great.

Put hide in tumbler; turn on, wait 10 or 15,20,25 minutes. Open the door and check when ever you want to. Take it out when you think the hide is where you want it. Long hair takes longer than short hair. There is no set time in stone, and this is not rocket surgery and it is just like drying you're clothes in the dryer. Stop and check now and then, when it's done, you will know.

I tumble 10 to 15 min. then stop and check it. If it needs it I will go some more until its dry.
