I have been given a fresh(just cut from the deer) hide and would like to tan it or preserve it. I know there are tanning kits out there but right now I have next to no money to put into this. Ideally I'd like to end up with a soft leather but I would settle for something that I could hang on the wall is nothing else.
Again cost is a factor here so please keep that in mind when suggesting things.
Thanks for your help.

Look it up on the internet. Alot of work but you can probebly use stuff that you already have around the house and will give you the soft leather that you want.
.
Brain tan is as cheap as you can get. Like the Indians did it.
Ater experiencing it, will probably be glad to have a good taxidermist send it out for a good quality garment tan. for 90 bucks
I am in the same boat and would just like to try the experience. We are not trying to put any body out of business, just trying to learn and experience something new and gives an option to just throwing my deer hides away.
by brain tanning. This method used by the Indians was of necessity. We have better ways today. Now you can have it tanned overnight at home for around $25. However, if that is too much money, go do it the old way.
Does it have to be deer brains or can you use cow? Just curious.
